This event has been cancelled. With the onset of cases of COVID-19 on island, we have made the difficult decision to cancel Shabbat services (as well as our communal Passover Seder and the Yom Hashoah Holocaust Remembrance Play).
JCK will present “Nightwords,” a spoken word piece. This is a liturgy on the Holocaust, compiled by Canadian writer David Roskies.
This piece was presented by JCK about eight years ago. It requires 36 readers of different parts, seated in a circle. We are arranging readers in advance, or they will be asked that evening. Observers and friends will sit in a larger circle, surrounding the readers.
Sally Wilson and Micki Evslin will light six yarzheit candles placed on a simple table. Marty Kahn will read Kaddish, which is recited at the end of the piece.
We encourage you to attend this poignant experience; if you’d like to participate, please let us know. This is an especially auspicious commemoration, as it is the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz.
